SmartTrack, the new Invisalign material
Align Technology has announced that it will introduce SmartTrack™, a next-generation material for Invisalign aesthetic aligners.
This new material is more elastic, fits the shape of the teeth better and provides gentler and more constant strength. This results in greater control over teeth movement and therefore better clinical outcomes of treatments.
The material used by Invisalign to date is Exceed 40 (EX40). This material lost strength over time such that it applied pressure only for the first few days. SmartTrack’s most innovative feature is that it maintains constant strength throughout the two weeks that the patient wears the aligners.
The image below shows a figure that compares the strength of the different materials.
A study of more than 1,000 patients treated with Invisalign aligners made of SmartTrack showed a statistically significant improvement in control over teeth movements such as rotation and extrusion (p < 0.001) compared to patients treated with Invisalign aligners made of the current material. This represents an improvement in the most difficult movements with Invisalign.
SmartTrack will arrive in Spain in early 2013.
